William Kent (1919–2012) was a self-taught American artist whose monumental wood sculptures, Italian slate carvings, and innovative monoprints embodied his uncompromising individuality. A printmaking pioneer, Kent developed a hand-carved slate technique that yielded singular works blending technical mastery with biting social commentary. Over his lifetime, he created more than 800 sculptures and 2,000 prints—each a testament to his fearless independence and vision.
